Up North at the Cabin
Published in Library Binding by Lothrop Lee & Shepard (May, 1992)
Authors: Steve Johnson and Marsha Wilson Chall
Average review score:

Wonderful story! Wonderful illustrations!
I use this book often with my elementary students to show them that words can create pictures in their readers' minds. The author paints a picture on each page, vividly describing fond memories of different parts of her vacation at the cabin. The illustrator supports that with incredibly detailed pictures. The kids were in awe of this book, it was very powerful for them, and for their writing!

"Head'n up North to the cabin!"
A beautiful story about a girl's experiences with her family at a lake. The illustrations enhance the story line providing an opportunity to re-live past memories of my own. I recommend this to anyone who has spent time near/on a lake. A great gift idea for all ages!

Vail: Triumph of a Dream
Published in Paperback by Mountain Sports Press (October, 2002)
Authors: Peter W. Seibert, William Oscar Johnson, and Jean-Claude Killy
Average review score:

Memories of Vail
This is a must read book for any Vail skier. I am the son of one of Vail's pioneers (Sigi Faller) and enjoyed many wonderful days on the Mountain in the "Glory Years". The book provides a perspective of Amercian history (Camp Hale and WWII) and relates a romantic business success story, especially for those who are independent, entrepreneural and have a love of the outdoors. It's a fascinating account of finding recreational "gold" in the Colorado Rockies. An excellent collection of photos is included.

If you're a ski fanatic - you'll love this book
This book captures the spirit of Peter Seibert and Earl Eaton and the early days of their lives and their dream to build Vail and Beaver Creek. The trimuphs are great. Hiking Vail for the first time with skins on the skis and seeing the bowls, what a trip! Getting fired from his dream and then getting asked back during the '89 World Championships - wow!! - what a roller coaster of emotions. If you love great stories and you know the Vail Valley and the ski industry - this book is a must read!!

Violets Blooming in a Late Spring Snow: A Birthmother Reflects on Adoption
Published in Paperback by Worlds a Stage (April, 1998)
Authors: Jacqueline Ramthun, Robin Mueller, Patricia Hoolihan, and Jessica A. Johnson

Tears of understanding
I work with hopeful adoptive couples, so I ordered this book for them. Unbeknown to many of them,I am also a birth grandmother. The book was a delightful read that brought tears of joy, and sorrow, to my eyes. I want to send a special copy to my daughter (the birth mother), the adoptive parents of her child, as well as to my mother, because I think it's a book we can all relate to as a way of understanding what we've gone through these past 7 months. We have an "open adoption" so can see/write/talk to each other whenever we want. It's amazing to even imagine what it would have been like 20 or 30 years ago; we have much to be thankful for. But that doesn't take away from the losses that everyone brings to the adoptive table. Everything about the book was enjoyable--even the cover of the book, a soft pastel/water color print of violets, was pleasing to look at. And I loved all the quotes from those great songs of the 60's and 70's (with a few earlier ones thrown in)!

An inspiring, beautifully written true life story.
This true life story about a young woman who faced a life-giving decision (all alone) has made a great impact upon many readers. I know, because I have given several copies of "Violets" to friends. Beautifully written, Jacqueline Ramthun allows the reader into her very soul. Her recall of simple, yet difficult memories are woven throughout her story. Readers will share along with the author, the feelings this young woman felt along her decision-making path. I would describe this book as inspirational and hope giving for a world filled with so much tradegy and despair. The author's choice at a time so filled with remorse and sorrow is rewarded with love and new lives, she could not imagine. I highly recommend this book for both young men and women, parents and grandparents. It will leave you feeling better about the gift of life.

Waltz in Time
Published in Paperback by Wings ePress, Inc. (01 February, 2002)
Author: Diana Lee Johnson

A Waltz In Time A True Keeper
Ordered by her doctor to take some time from work, Virginia Berkeley decides to take her vacation during the Civil War reenactment in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A Civil War buff, Virginia plans on a relaxing as well as educational time. What she doesn't plan on is meeting a real live Confederate colonel, somehow transported from the Battle of Fredericksburg, over 100 years earlier.

Badly beaten, bleeding, and filthy, Colonel Robert Carter CSA literally drops at Virginia's feet. Confused, and disbelieving, Robert slowly adjusts to the amazements of the 20th Century. In spite of his growing love for Virginia he knows he must return to his own time, to his command. To be labeled a deserter for eternity does not sit well with the proud Confederate. Can Robert return once again to the woman he loves, or will he be forever lost in the past?

Like the heroine of Ms Johnson's book, I too am a huge Civil War buff. It's one reason I was very anxious to read and review this book. I was not disappointed! Ms. Johnson's research is impeccable, as her characters come to life before your very eyes. I thought my heart was going to break as Robert touches Virginia's hand once more as he returns to his own time and my mind began quickly searching for a path to happily ever after for this charming pair. Needless to say, this is a romance and Diana Lee Johnson provides readers with a satisfyingly happily ever after.

I also give Ms Johnson tons of extra points for giving readers a heroine that isn't a twenty year old fluff ball. Virginia is in her forties, carries a bit of extra weight, and has two grown daughters. It was a delight to read a book where I could put myself completely into the heroine's shoes. That's tough to do when the heroine is a 20 year old virgin! Robert is a mature woman's dream. Gentle, caring, attentive to Virginia's needs....add to that the fact that he's a southern gentleman and he becomes a true Sir Galahad.

WALTZ IN TIME has it all. Outstanding storytelling, realistic characters, humor, and a poignant love that will last through the ages....Diana Lee Johnson has penned a winner. This is one book you won't want to miss. As Posted on The Word on Romance

Waltz in Time
Diana Lee Johnson has outdone herself with this masterful novel! Waltz in Time is the story of an exquisite love that becomes a bridge between two distinctly different periods in time. In this exciting time-travel romance, we come to realize the past is not necessarily something over and done with. It is the magic of Waltz in Time to transform the there-and-then into the here-and-now.

We Are All Water Babies

Very beautiful photographic work
This book is full of very beautiful full-color photographs throughout, and the quality of the printing is very high. This is an extremely beautiful book!

I bought this book as a photographic work, although there is running text along with all the photographs. It's primarily about the joy and great value of introducing babies and children to water and swimming in a supportive environment, and it also has a good chapter on water birth.

Good, beautiful book
This book is one of the most beautiful i have ever read. The photos are amazing. I was fascinated by the way that babies can swim in this environment. This book also showed pregnant women working with dolphins and in water. They were some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. The birth pictures were awesome..if you are interested in water birth, this is the book for you!

We Remember: Women Born at the Turn of the Century Tell the Stories of Their Lives in Words and Pictures
Published in Hardcover by Hearst Books (April, 1999)
Authors: Jeanne Marie Laskas, Lynn Johnson, and Hillary Rodham Clinton
Average review score:

A GREAT GIFT
THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. IT'S A QUICK READ AND REALLY INTERESTING. I LEARNED THINGS I NEVER KNEW OR HEARD ABOUT. EG., BACK IN THE OLD DAYS WOMEN'S GLOVES WERE FITTED (AS IN TAILORED TO EACH INDIVIDUAL)!

I THINK THIS IS A GREAT GIFT PARTICULARLY FOR THOSE ENJOYING THIER GOLDEN YEARS. MOMS AND GRANDMAS WILL LOVE IT.

Fascinating stories includes one about My Momma!GreatPhotos
Women who possibly will have seen three centuries in three millenia tell their stories and share their photographs. They saw the horse and buggy become the automobile, and the first airplane become a jet, followed by exploration of the moon and outer space. What a beautiful historical picture of not only the strengths of these women, but also the beauty of their lives.

This is a first and cannot happen again until the next millenia when 2099 becomes 3000. It should be in everyone's library.

We're Finally Alone: Now What Do We Do?

DATING,ENGAGED OR MARRIED - PICK UP THIS BOOK!
This fabulous book of questions is a fun and exciting way to get to know your spouse (or potential spouse). It brings up subjects that might ordinarily not be explored for years into a relationship if you wait for it to "come up naturally" in a conversation. Sometimes it even causes YOU to think through issues you've never fully faced. But mostly, it's just fun and fascinating to discover the mind and heart of your best friend. Fabulous wedding gift if you can find a copy.

Great gift book!
I received this as a wedding present. This is a great marriage enrichment tool. It has five levels of questions with the levels relating to degrees of intimacy. The question topics range from communication, work, sex, finances, spiritual growth to plans for the future. It causes you to really open your eyes and is a GREAT conversation starter! It's fun to just pick a random number and ask your partner the question. :-)

What Hollywood Won't Tell You About Sex, Love and Dating
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (February, 1997)
Authors: Susie Shellenberger and Greg Johnson
Average review score:

This book is soo helpful
I'm 17 years old and I found this book really helpful as it covers so many areas that other Christian books manage to avoid or brush over. It really gets specific and is clear to understand for teenagers of both sex.

TEENS: You've got to read this!!!
This is the book that got me out of a destructive relationship. I was loosing myself, and I knew I wasn't feeling well, when a friend handed me this book. I read and I wept. It helped me realise what I was doing. The day after, I broke up with him.

My story is no guarantee that the same thing will happen to you. But if you are a teen, you'd better read this BEFORE you get into trouble with a relationship. This book is a great step-by-step guide for Christian youth (But I recommend it for all teens).

It starts with dating, goes through the difference between love and lust, what you can do right to make your partner feel good about him/herself, and how to correct the mistakes you might have done. There are specific chapters for girls, and others for guys.

You won't know how much you've been needing the advice this book gives you until you've read it...
